FIGHTING FOR THIRD

Lithuania vs. France, FIBA World Cup 2014

After falling in the semifinals, Lithuania and France do battle for third place at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Lithuania and France may not be going for the gold, but the two teams will do battle for bronze at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup on Saturday
Lithuania competed with Team USA for one half in the semifinals, trailing by just eight points at halftime. But like the other Team USA opponents that stayed close early on, the Lithuanians just couldn't keep up in the second half, getting destroyed and losing by 28 points.
While they proved no match for Team USA, Lithuania will be a stiff test for France. Jonas Valanciunas had 15 points against Team USA and has been excellent all tournament, averaging 13.1 points and 8.4 rebounds. No other players on Lithuania are averaging double figures in scoring, but there are six total players on the roster putting up at least 7.5 points per game.
France was riding high into the semifinals after stunning host Spain in the quarterfinals, but Les Bleus ran into an offensive juggernaut in Serbia. Nicolas Batum scored 35 points and had 17 in the fourth quarter as France tried to comeback from a double-digit point deficit, but they fell just short and lost, 90-85.
Batum leads France in scoring at 13.0 points per game, while Boris Diaw is averaging 8.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists.
